St George's CE Primary, Stockport
Pendlewood was approached by St George's CE Primary Headteacher,
Christine Buckley. Mrs. Buckley was keen to provide her pupils with a safe and
secure play area but one in which the pupils were able to get a unique and fun
play experience where they could develop physically, mentally and socially.
Thankfully everybody at Pendlewood was up for the challenge!
Previously St George's had very little in the way of play equipment,
there were concrete playground areas but they did not have any equipment,
indeed the playground was little more than an empty open space with a few
(fading) painted markings There was no
nature, no equipment and nothing to stimulate the minds of the children. With
that in mind, Pendlewood's team of imagineers and designers got together with Mrs.
Buckley and came up with the following ideas:
Make The Camelot, one of Pendlewood's most prominent and exciting play & climb designs, the centrepiece of the playground. The Camelot allows the children to indulge in imaginative and creative role play, as well as enhancing the physical development of the pupils.
Other Pendlewood roducts that we added to the school's grounds were: a Mini-Beast Area, a Trim Trail, Traversing Wall, a Chalkboard, a Fence complete with a Mirror, an Enchanted Archway and a Dragon Head Sculpture.
A softplay surface, as it adds colour to the play area as well as being a safer surface given that the children will be physically active in the area.
As can be seen from the surrounding pictures, the resulting playground
not only lived upto - but surpassed the initial hopes of Mrs. Buckley and her
children. On completion she said:
"We are so thrilled with the wonderful Pendlewood play area. It is constantly
in use and the children have benefitted immensely from the varied activities
and structures that were designed and built into what appeared to be a
restricted area.
The children think it is magical and are constantly finding new ways
in which to utilize the various play equipment. The workmanship is superb and all the
Pendlewood team and site workers were so considerate and helpful in ensuring
school life wasn't disrupted. I highly recommend the Pendlewood experience to
any school looking to enhance play for their children."
