Queen's Castle

School Play and Climb - School Playground Equipment

The Queen's Castle is the latest addition to Pendlewood's innovative and inclusive high-climb range that is redefining educational adventure based play.

Offering plenty of opportunities for cognitive, physical and social development, the Queen's Castle has hours of endless fun for children of all ages.

The Queen's Castle includes a multitude of activities and challenges that will keep children of all ages entertained. There are three towers that the play experience is based around. Each has vantage and look-out points and two have slides, of differing heights, offering an exciting route to the ground. In addition to this, there is a testing balance rope walkway linking two of the towers, which provides a physical test and will help improve balance skills.

Other features include a staircase entry to one of the towers, den areas, as well as a visually stunning arched bridge that links the two largest towers and a pathway and that is geared towards DDA accessibility and inclusiveness. The Castle design will help stimulate creative role play amongst the younger children.

The initial Queens Castle formed the centrepiece of what is officially the Nation's Favourite Park, the Queen's Park in Heywood, Rochdale, hence the regal name, although few would deny that this Castle provides a regal play experience. To see a case study of this exciting project click here.

The Queen's Castle handcrafted from sustainable and long lasting redwood, which is a durable and low maintenance timber that is ideal for children's use as it's less prone to splinters than most hardwoods.

Due to Environmental reasons we choose to use European Redwood. This is one of the hardest softwoods available and is suitable for exterior usage. It has a natural resilience, and the introduction of the preservative Tanalith E helps this timber have a greater life span than some hardwoods - without the negative environmental impact associated with exotic hardwoods.

Redwood timber is fully grown in 50 years. It is also harvested and replanted in 50% of the time that it takes a hardwood tree to reach maturity. All redwood used by Pendlewood is harvested from sustainable forests.
